Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days Q & A

The Kentucky Department of Education has approved the district for up to ten Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days. Several Kentucky school districts currently use this method of instruction for snow days. It allows students to be considered present and work on instructional content even if they are not in a school building. Although NTI does not replace the rigor of normal classroom instruction time, it allows the opportunity for students to complete school work and be counted as a day of school. The days will not have to be made up in May/June.

What are teachers, administrators and other staff doing on NTI Days?
Teachers will be accessible from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. via email or other teacher designated means for any students who need assistance in completing the NTI Day lessons. Other staff will have assignments/duties related to their respective job positions.

How will students submit their work from the NTI Days?
Students will receive copies of the work packets for grades K-5 and Central Academy. For grades 6-12 at NMS, SMS, and HCHS, assignments are posted in their Google Drive classrooms or in their shared drive. Students should return their work to school on the day they return from the break. Online assignments may be completed and submitted online, printed for completion at a later time, or the work can be recorded on a separate piece of paper. (within 3 days of returning to school).

What happens if my student lost or did not receive the NTI Day folder or packet?
NTI Day packets will be distributed to students at school prior to NTI days.
If your student did not bring a packet home, call your school or Central Office to make arrangements for packet pickup between the designated hours of 9:00 a.m. - 2: 00 p.m.

If a student is unable to complete the lesson packet prior to returning to school, he/she will be provided assistance at school to complete the work. All NTI Day work will be due within 3 days upon students return to school.
If a student fails to submit the NTI Day work on the final make-up day, that student may receive a zero for participation on their assignments.

What happens if my student does not have internet service to work on their Chromebook assignments?
Students do not need the use of internet service to complete assignments.  The assignments have been uploaded to their Chromebooks to view and complete.

Chromebook Helpdesk
For all HCS students in grades 6-12 during our NTI days.
The helpdesk will be located at the Technology Service Center (TSC) during the hours of
9:00 am – 2:00 pm (closed 12:00 - 12:30 p.m.)
Students will be able to have their Chromebooks assessed and repaired if needed.
Loaner Chromebooks will be available if immediate repairs are not possible.
